Gutters are manufactured in three thicknesses; .024mm thick; .027mm thick; and .032mm thick.

.032 commercial grade is recommended for roof platforms with 10,000 square feet or more. Prices range from $24 to $35 per foot installed, depending on the level (height) of the building. .032mm has a 20-year warranty.

.027 residential grade is recommended for roof platforms with 10,000 square feet or less. Prices range from $16 to $28 per foot installed. Roof platforms of more than 6000 square feet should consider six inch gutters, however, five inch will work if gutter protection (such as, LeafSolution) is installed. .027mm has a 20-year warranty.

.024 is very flimsy and will dent fairly easy and prices range from $6 to $12 per foot installed. A falling pinecone or wayward bird will dent the .024mm aluminum gutters. Most gutter companies will not tell you what gauge aluminum will be installed on your home unless you (the homeowner) ask. Some will charge .027 prices but install .024 aluminum. Most gutter companies will only put enough reinforcement brackets as needed to hold up the gutters. Hidden hangers have a hefty price tag and it takes added crew time to install 100 brackets than it does to install only 50 brackets, however, the gutters become seven times stronger by adding twice as many reinforcement brackets; and as such the gutter have a much longer performance period.

Always request the additional support brackets, even if the cost is a little more, because it will pay off in the long-run with less gutter repair issues.
